My name is François, and I create handcrafted chain mail jewellery inspired by history, craftsmanship, and the timeless beauty of woven metal.
 

I have loved the medieval era since I was very young; its history, art, armor, and craftsmanship have always captivated me. This interest led me early on to the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons (at the age of nine!), where I first heard about chainmail.

 

One thing led to another, eventually introducing me to the craft of chainmail making—where I found the perfect blend of historical inspiration and manual labour. What began as a simple fascination with the ancient art of chainmail gradually evolved into a serious project.

 

I was drawn not only to the durability and complexity of the links themselves but also to the patience, precision, and work required to transform thousands of rings into a piece of armor with a centuries-old legacy.

 

I started out making my own rings using galvanized steel wire, a mandrel, and a pair of tin snips, but I soon realized that crafting full suits of armor wasn't for me. I would lose interest very quickly; while I didn't dislike the work, it didn't satisfy my creative side. The further a project progressed, the more my interest waned.

 

It wasn't until years later that I returned to the craft—this time to create jewelry. Much like chainmail armor, each piece of jewelry is assembled by hand, ring by ring. I enjoy exploring various techniques, textures, and patterns, combining traditional methods with modern designs to create elegant, unique, and personal pieces suitable for everyday wear. Whether delicate and intricate or bold and striking, each creation reflects the care and dedication I put into my craft.
 

To me, chain mail is more than jewellery — it is an art form with centuries of history behind it. I love bringing that history into the present and creating pieces that people can wear, enjoy, and connect with.
